Die Kollegen von bloody-disgusting.com hatten die Gelegenheit sich mit Clive Barker über allerlei wichtige und weniger wichtige Projekte und Hobbies zu unterhalten. Unter anderem kam die Sprache auch auf das anstehende 'Hellraiser' Remake. Gerüchten zufolge soll es kein Remake im eigentlichen Sinne werden, sondern mehr ein Reboot der Serie. Der für das Projekt vorgesehene, französische Regisseur Pascal Laugier ('Martyrs') hat angeblich schon ein Drehbuch in der Tasche, das zur Zeit ins Englische übersetzt wird, um von den Chefs in Hollywood (die Weinsteins) abgenickt zu werden.

Wirklich viel hat Laugier noch nicht verraten, es soll sich aber aus einem Mix des original Films und Clive Barkers Geschichte 'The Hellbound Heart' handeln, auf der der Film basiert. Sowohl Frank als auch Julia werden als Hauptpersonen zurückkehren. Barker selber hat sich nicht zum Script geäußert. Wozu er aber etwas gesgt hat, ist das Reboot des Pinhead Looks (Bild links), das Gary J. Tunnicliffe zu verantworten hat.

Es stellte sich heraus, dass Tunnicliffe, ein Makeup-Vetran der 'Hellraiser' Reihe, die Studie ohne einen offiziellen Auftrag gefertigt hat, in der Hoffnung einen Job in der Neuverfilmung zu landen. Das Design ist sowohl bei den Fans als auch bei vielen Studioverantwortlichen nicht gerade auf Wohlwollen gestoßen. Auch Barker sieht die Sache eher skeptisch:

I didn’t like them. I thought they were provocative in the sense of hopefully making people take notice of what worked and what didn’t work. I feel that the Pinhead design works best because it’s geometric. It’s very severe and schematized. Each of the squares are the same size, all the scars are laid out in a straight line. It isn’t the work of somebody going at somebody else’s face with a chainsaw. That, I think, is what makes the thing scary - ritual scarification. This is not crude, vicious slashing.

I think the combination of a very organized system of scarring with a nail at every intersection is almost mathematical in its precision. The fact that that’s been done to somebody or worse, that they’ve done to themselves, is what makes that image powerful. Once you take away the squares all being the same size and the nails all being the same length, you are just left with a slasher victim, which I don’t think Pinhead is. I think Pinhead is a priest at the alter of a S & M.
