NEW GERMAN HORROR: 'BARRICADE'

German director Timo Rose ('Lord of the Undead') will start shooting his latest movie called 'Barricade' in August. The movie stars Raine Brown ('Satan's Playground') and Joe Zaso ('Red Midnight'), who's also co-producing the movie. Fangoria.com had the chance to sit down with Zaso and Brown to tlak about their new project:

Zaso: It’s an action-packed role, and the film is loaded with tense, violent situations which should provide a rollercoaster ride of crazed events. I loved working with Raine Brown on 'Angels' Blade', and what is especially attractive about this project is that I can, for once, play a non-villain role.

Brown: Ted and I have known each other ever since 'Horror' came out and when he contacted me about working on a script called 'Dry Rot' that he had wrote and was planning to film. Unfortunately, funding wasn’t easy to find for that project, so it kept being put on the back burner. Then Ted sent out a link for 'Barricade'. I immediately told him that it looked really well-done, and I was excited that my friend Joe Zaso was starring in it and also producing.

Well, the next day I got an e-mail from Joe asking if I might be interested in working on 'Barricade'. I was thrilled with the opportunity to work with Joe again after 'Angel's Blade', and to finally get to do something of Ted’s—I knew I couldn’t turn it down. Plus, we will be filming in Germany, so how can you beat that?

Then I read the script and found out that my role, Nina, is the lead, and not only is she a cool actress from NYC, but she gets to really kick ass. I love when women characters are powerful. The way she deals with all the horrible blood and guts—and trust me, there’s gonna be a lot—her gender does not matter. This character just takes charge and takes care of business. She also has the kind of emotional depth and personal struggles that, as an actress, I love to delve into. So I felt there was a lot I could work with not only in terms of being an intense thriller, but also as a well-written piece with lots of character development. Also, there’s a little romance between Nina and Joe’s character Michael and the stereotypical gender roles are reversed too, so that’s fun.

The movie will be distributed by Zaso's company Cinema Image in the US. Germaica Films and Records will handle the publishing outside of America. No release date has been set, yet. - [frank]
